Buddy Rathmell grew up in a military family, the son of an Army Chaplain.  Originally his plan was to travel around Europe after high school but realizing he had seen much of Europe and little of the US he spent his first fall after high school hitch hiking around American.  Landing in LA he ended up in New York 4 months later.

During that time he decided to head towards ministry.  In college he was a involved in student government and an All American Soccer Player.

After college he spent some time working for a Fortune 150 company in the IT Department. Before heading to the mission field Buddy and his wife Jen bought a VW bus and traveled across the US during which Buddy hit his 50th state at the age of 26.

In 1997 he was accepted as a missionary with Cadence International.  From February of 2000 until June 2010 he ministered to military students on Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan.  In 2003 He was asked to be part of the Malachi Leadership team.  In 2007 he became the Asia Malachi Director.  He assumed the Executive director role for 7 months before heading to Thailand to begin a Discipleship Training School and further the ministry of Stop Slavery which he helped to found.
