Being Comfortable isn’t really what you are after

According to George Barna being comfortable isn’t really what you are after.  Actually it is but it is way down the list at number 6 of what is most important to most American’s.

If you have your life together in the first few areas I think you are much better off than if you have a comfortable life with a nice house, car, job etc.

The top 5 areas that most American’s want to have in the future are:

1.  Good Physical Health

2.  Integrity

3.  1 Marriage Partner for life (This one surprised me based on current divorce rates)

4.  Close Relationship with God.

5.  Close, intimate relationships with friends.

Though this is a site for entrepreneurs who often desire freedom and some of the things that go along with a comfortable lifestyle I think we need to make sure that our goals are balanced.  That we make goals not only for our businesses but for our lives as well to make sure that we hit what is most important.

So when you work on goals starting with the top 5 things that American’s hope to have in the future might be a great place to start.

Action Steps:

1.  What do I need to do to ensure I have good physical health?

2.  Are there areas in life where I need to bolster my integrity or make things right?

3.  What kind of input have I been giving to my marriage?  How healthy is my marriage?

4.  Have I been investing in close friendships?

5.  Have I been investing in my relationship with God?

It’s interesting that this is the list not for American Christian’s but American’s in general.  If you work on the first five you will go a long way towards living out the life that God has for you and experience a lot of joy and fulfillment along the way.
